about lloyd price

We all know about the unifying power of music, and no one’s sound brought people together quite like the trailblazing Lloyd Price who became a legend in the 20th century. In 1952, Price recorded his first record, “Lawdy Miss Clawdy.” Price became a crossover hit, popular with both Black and white kids, breaking down the “race records” barrier in the industry. Lloyd was the first teenager to sell over a million records, first black teenager to get airplay on white stations and the first artist to start their own record label. Price dreamed and achieved change through his music, manner, and mindset. He defined the times and inspired people of all races and ages. Lloyd Price was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 — this musical celebrates his life and legacy.

CHICAGO CONCERT REVIEWS

“a compelling portrait of…a downright revolutionary…”

“Personality: The Lloyd Price Musical” is much more than merely a jukebox rehashing of his many R&B and crossover chart-toppers starting in the late 1950s, but rather, a compelling portrait of the man who was downright revolutionary in the music industry.

“a fantastic new musical”

Once you hear the incredible true story of Lloyd Price, you will wonder how you ever went so long without hearing the incredible true story of Lloyd Price. Sheldon Epps’s production goes big: an ensemble large enough to fill the stage, huge talent, and lots of high energy dance numbers from Edgar Godineaux. Personality is a fantastic new musical that will keep Lloyd Price’s life and music on our minds from decades to come.
